REFLEXOLOGY- Massage for the sole

I had my first Reflexology treatment recently and as a guy, I believed it was a bit fluffy for a healthy personal trainer but my Reflexologist  Emma Jackson assured me that Reflex is making a difference in the corporate world with organisation such as ANZ National, TelstraClear, Maori Television, Nestle Trustpower and Tauranga City council including reflexology as part of their wellness programmes.

For those that are not sure what Reflexology is, Emma explained it as a non-invasive treatment that applies pressure to the points of the feet to stimulate a response.

I had known Reflexology was an exceptionally therapeutic way to relieve many acute and chronic conditions as I had arranged a close friend that was having post baby problems to have a session.  I rang her the next day and was stoked to find that the condition that she had was mostly resolved.

My wife is also a convert to reflexology, she loves her regular treatments with Emma and has found that reflexology has very positive affect on her body and feet. She has been trying to keep on top of her exercise whilst struggling with a few niggling injuries including a couple of broken sesamoid bones in one of her feet.   Reflexology has significantly reduced the inflammation and discomfort and in addition it is one of the few treatments she finds completely relaxes her therefore as she puts it “helps with the head space and managing the day to day stressors”.

Life today is laden with social conditioning, embedded attitudes, belief systems and a high degree of stress and tension.  Reflexology recognises the value of relaxing the physical body.  Continued stress can manifest in the body as some form of illness eg heart problems, cancer, chronic fatigue migraines, colds and flu and many other conditions.

Anyway back to my treatment, a twist of my big toe and Emma asks me if I had any problems with my neck recently, but being a typical guy I said “no all good”, in actual fact is was a bit sore!
She moved around the rest of my feet prodding and massaging specific areas and when something felt different (hurt more than normal) I was curious to find our more. Emma was great she explained each area of the foot and how it relates to areas of the body.
About 30 minutes into the treatment I was really getting sleepy and starting to relax into it but refused to release myself to sleep as it felt soft (I really am a lad sometimes). Thirty minutes later and the treatment was over I felt great my feet were tingling and well and truly stimulated.

Being a personal trainer I am pretty in tune with my body and I could feel the treatment had defiantly relaxed me and I felt different I just couldn’t explain how.  I was a little skeptical at the start but went in with an open mind and would recommend that everyone try reflexology at least once.

After experiencing Reflexology I was pleasantly surprised with the results and I will over the next couple of months continue my treatments with Emma.  As with all treatments sometimes the first session isn’t mind blowing but mind opening.

Reflexology really is good for the sole (pun intended) and has become more mainstream over the last 5 years as a progressive and preventative health care measure used independently or in conjunction with other health care methods.

We understand that our bodies need nurturing to run smoothly.  By adding reflexology to your life, you can naturally address any aches, pains and imbalances.  Plus it feels great.  Treat your feet!  Your body will love you for it!
