Reflexology

Walking on a cloud

As Reflexologists, we believe treatments can affect the mind and body.  Reflexology helps to stimulate the body’s natural healing process, allowing the person to achieve physical and emotional wellbeing through deep relaxation.  Reflexology is often utilised as a preventative health care measure or is used in conjunction with conventional or other complementary health care methods as it strengthens and enhances the efficiency of organs and medications.  Reflexology is now a readily accepted component of progressive health care systems in countries such as Denmark, Finland, the US and the UK.

Life today is laden with social conditioning, embedded attitudes, belief systems and a high degree of stress and tension.  Reflexology recognises the value of relaxing the physical body.  Continued stress can manifest in the body as some form of illness eg heart problems, cancer, chronic fatigue, migraines, colds and flu and many others.

Understanding emotions is part of the healing process.  Fear and anxiety are common emotions many people deal with these days.  We are a product of our ‘mind chatter’ and preconceived values.  Emotions such as anger, resentment and fear, or feelings of being overwhelmed are symptoms which drain the body.

Reflexology is an exceptionally therapeutic way to relieve many acute and chronic conditions.  After a reflexology treatment, you will notice an amazing sense of calm and peace that can last hours.  You may feel like you are ‘waking on a cloud’.  Some people are lucky enough to feel the effects for days after the treatment.  By stimulating the reflexes feet, reflexology helps the body to expel toxins, release tension and restore its natural balance in a similar way to acupuncture.

If part of the body is inured, congested or holds tension, the corresponding reflexes react sensitively to pressure.  It is believed that when pressure is applied to these points, signals are passed down our neural pathways to balance the nervous system, facilitating a clearer communication between the body and the brain.  It releases chemicals such as endorphins, plus triggers muscle contractions, changes in blood pressure and variations of warmth.

Reflexology is also making a difference in the corporate world with organisation such as ANZ National, TelstraClear, Maori Television, Nestle Trustpower and Tauranga City council including reflexology as part of their wellness programmes.  Many employees enjoy weekly, fortnightly or monthly treatments as part of their health regime.

We understand that our bodies need nurturing to run smoothly.  By adding reflexology to your life, you can naturally address any aches, pains and imbalances.  Plus it feels great.  Treat your feet!  Your body will love you for it!

Frequently Asked Questions

If I don’t believe in reflexology, will it still be effective?

YES.  Reflexology relieves stress and tension and deeply relaxes people, independent of their beliefs about it.  Many skeptical people have become strong advocates for reflexology after experiencing it.  Try it with an open mind and find out for yourself how you respond to reflexology.

Are there any side effects?

NO.  The therapeutic relaxation that reflexology produces, encourages the body to release toxins (wastes stagnant in the body).  On occasion this release of toxins may bring about perspiration, slight nausea, headaches or an out-of-sorts feeling.  These minor discomforts are evidence of the body’s healing process.  They are temporary and are not serious.  It is important to drink plenty of water after your treatment to assist the body in the detoxification process.  Most people enjoy a pleasant, relaxed and or energised feeling after a treatment.

Does it hurt?

SOMETIMES.  In parts it can, like any massage.  This is merely an indication that there is an imbalance in the corresponding part of the body – after stimulation the pain subsides, the reflex area in the body is relaxed and with continued treatment pain in that area of the foot could diminish along with the imbalance in the body.  The majority of the treatment is pleasant.
